NFL: Jets re-sign two on defense

Jets cornerback Marcus Williams signed his restricted free-agent tender, worth $2.75 million, the team announced Monday. They also re-signed linebacker Julian Stanford, three days after cutting him.

Williams has a team-high eight intercepti­ons over the past two seasons. He started 14 games in three years after the team signed him in 2014, originally to the practice squad. He will compete for a starting job this season.

Stanford started three games last season and played in nine. Stanford, who went to Wagner College, was cut Friday on his wedding day in a procedural move because he ended the year on injured reserve. — Brian Costello Andrew Luck said he isn’t sure when he will start throwing again and won’t set a timetable for his return from shoulder surgery. The Colts starting quarterbac­k isn’t expected to do much — if any — work during the team’s offseason workouts. Andre Johnson will sign a one-day contract with the Texans on Wednesday so he can retire with the team that drafted him.

MLB: Thames hits HR in fifth straight

Eric Thames homered in his club recordtyin­g fifth straight game and the streaking Brewers turned back the Cubs 6-3 in Chicago. Milwaukee never trailed after Thames hit an opposite-field homer to snap a 3-3 tie in the third inning.

In Boston, Andrew Benintendi hit a go-ahead, two-run single as the Red Sox scored three unearned runs following a dropped throw error, and Boston beat the Rays 4-3 in the annual Patriots’ Day game.

Steven Wright allowed three runs — one earned — and nine hits in six innings for the Red Sox.

In St. Louis, Lance Lynn pitched seven shutout innings, Kolten Wong homered and the Cardinals stopped a three-game losing streak, beating the Pirates 2-1.

In Atlanta, Dansby Swanson hit an RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning and the Braves, boosted by Freddie Free

man’s two home runs and a double, beat the Padres 5-4 to complete a four-game sweep.

The Rangers placed right-handed closer Sam Dyson on the 10-day disabled list with a right-hand bruise.

NCAA: LIU to hire Kellogg as coach

Ex-UMass coach Derek Kellogg will be named the next men’s basketball coach at LIU Brooklyn, according to reports. A press conference to announce the new coach is scheduled for Tuesday. Kellogg, who went 155-137 in nine seasons at UMass, replaces the fired Jack Perri.

Josh Jackson declared for the NBA draft after one of the best freshman seasons in Kansas history. The swingman averaged 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds.

ETC.: Jazz center out for Game 2

Jazz center Rudy Gobert will miss Game 2 of the team’s first-round playoff series against the Clippers on Tuesday, according to ESPN. He is still recovering from a hyperexten­sion of his left knee in Game 1.

Chelsea captain John Terry will end his 22-year associatio­n with the London club at the end of the season, but the veteran defender wants to keep on playing.
