A BABY GRAND SLAM!
Serena serves shocker: I’m pregnant
Tennis queen Serena Williams posted a surprising bathing-suit selfie on Wednesday — showing that she’s in a family way.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner revealed that she was pregnant when she posted an image to Snapchat showing her baby bump in a yellow swimsuit along with the caption “20 weeks.”
Williams mysteriously deleted the selfie a short time later, setting off a frenzy of speculation.
But her publicist confirmed Wednesday night that Williams and her fiancé, Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian, are, indeed, expecting a baby.
The Women’s Tennis Association tweeted, “Serena Williams just took to her Snapchat to announce that she’s 20 weeks pregnant!”
The US Tennis Association posted on Facebook, “Join us in congratulating the GOAT [greatest of all time] and her fiancé Alexis Ohanian on this incredible news!”
The World Tennis Association Tour also posted congrats — but then yanked them in the confu- sion after Williams deleted her snap.
In addition to her record number of Grand Slam tournament titles, the pregnancy could mean another first for Williams: If, indeed, she is 20 weeks into her term, she was approximately two months pregnant when she won the Australian Open in January.
Fans rejoiced at Wednesday’s baby news.
“Dang Serena won her 23rd grand slam 8 weeks pregnant. I can’t even eat Chipotle without having to lay down after,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
Her Australian victory over older sister Venus Williams broke a tie with Steffi Graf for the most Grand Slam singles championships in the sport’s modern era.
Since that win, the 35-year-old Serena has pulled out of tournaments in Miami and California, citing a knee injury.
Her spokeswoman said Williams is taking maternity leave through the rest of 2017 and expects to give birth in the fall.
Williams and Ohanian, 33, have been dating for about a year.
