BOXING: Porter beats Berto in ninth round Shawn Porter stopped Andre Berto in the ninth round of a welterweig­ht eliminatio­n bout Saturday night at Barclays Center. Porter (27-2-1) was in control for much of the bout against Berto (31-5). With the victory, Porter figures to get a title shot before year’s end. In the undercard, Jermell Charlo (29-0) knocked out Charles Hatley (26-2-1) in the sixth round as Charlo defended his WBC junior middleweig­ht title.

MLB: Tigers place Cabrera on disabled list The Tigers have placed first baseman Miguel Cabrera on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right groin. Cabrera was injured while diving for a ground ball in the sixth inning of the Tigers’ game against the Twins on Friday night. The 34-year-old slugger is hitting .268 with three home runs and nine RBIs this season. Toronto has placed shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring, joining star Josh Donaldson on the shelf. In Minneapoli­s, Tigers center fielder JaCoby Jones was taken to a hospital after getting hit in the face by a pitch during Detroit’s 5-4 win over the Twins. Manager Brad Ausmus said Jones had a “nasty split lip” and was undergoing a CT scan. Detroit’s Matthew Boyd was ejected two innings later when he threw behind Twins slugger Miguel Sano, which lead to a bench-clearing scuffle.

NBA: Beverley incident under investigat­ion A source told The Associated Press the NBA is investigat­ing a Friday night incident in Oklahoma City between Rockets guard Patrick Beverley and a Thunder fan. Video shows Beverley falling in front of the fan in the first half, then getting up and pointing at him before teammate Nene redirects him. Beverley exchanged words with the fan after the game.

GOLF: Chappell has one-stroke lead in Texas Kevin Chappell birdied three of his final five holes, scoring a 1-under 71 on Saturday, giving him a one-stroke lead at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio.
