Obama’s Legacy on Iran: Endless Risky Concessions
The news boggles the mind: Then-President Barack Obama freed prisoners accused of supplying Iran with USbuilt electronics for military systems, including for missiles, as a bargaining chip in his attempt to save his nuclear deal with Iran (“Fresh IranDeal Warts,” Editorial, April 25).
Not only was this a threat to our national security, but the failure to explain this move truthfully to the American public and to Congress was nothing short of a dereliction of duty. Protecting Americans is the No. 1 priority for any US president.
Obama should be called before Congress to explain this maneuver. And Senate Democrats should be made to explain why they supported his nuclear deal. From the failed red line in Syria to the foolish deal with Iran, Obama lowered the bar for presidents on US international policy. Matthew Pease Demarest, NJ
Obama’s release and protection of the Iranian fugitives is par for the course for a president who allowed North Korea to develop and test ballistic missiles and removed Cuba, a country that sponsored Armed Forces for National Liberation bomber William Morales and Black Liberation Army cop-killer Joanne Chesimard, from the list of state sponsors of terror.
Obama’s thorough capitulation to Iran should surprise no one. What should surprise Americans is that his reprehensible actions are still minimized and chalked up to a desire to secure his legacy.
Obama’s eight years of bleeding America should lead any reasonable observer to conclude his actions were not simply ego-driven but calculated to bring America down and raise up our enemies. That is Obama’s true legacy. Joe Connor Glen Rock, NJ
Obama’s effort to put a favorable spin on actions that effectively thwarted the apprehension and prosecution of fugitives accused of supplying arms to Iran is incomprehensible and self-defeating.
Not pursuing these fugitives was unquestionably not in Americans’ best interest. The expose demands a review by a prosecutor. John Gargiulo Whitestone
The midnight Tehran airlift and delivery of $400 million to Iran as Americans were freed was a disgrace.
Now it’s revealed that the administration lied by saying the seven freed Iranian prisoners had only violated economic sanctions, in order to not endanger the horrible nuclear deal. The Obama legacy is one of lunacy, and not only when it comes to Iran. Tim McCarty Hopkinton, Mass
