Sanctuary Cities Shouldn’t Get Their Own ‘Sanctuary’
California federal Judge William Orrick’s ruling that withholding federal funds from sanctuary cities is unconstitutional is beyond the pale (“‘Sanctuary’ for cities,” April 26).
I’m not against those who come here illegally and seek work to support their families and are law-abiding. I think these people should be given a pathway to citizenship that doesn’t require they return to their country of origin.
But the politicians of these sanctuary cities, counties and states are not turning over illegal immigrant criminals for deportation, which seems to be for the purpose of securing votes.
It appears Orrick does not value the rights of the citizens of San Francisco and Santa Clara County. Richard A. Ketay Newark , NJ
It is disheartening that a US district court judge would allow illegal immigrants to be protected when they break the laws that govern our country.
Politicians who defy federal law, making our cities unsafe for American citizens, should not be rewarded with fed- eral tax dollars.
Europeans are suffering now for failing to put the lives of their own countrymen first. If the law of the land isn’t followed, what’s preventing all hell from breaking loose?

San Francisco allowed an illegal immigrant who was deported four times to continue returning, and he allegedly killed Kate Steinle.
In Denver, the sheriff’s department released an illegal immigrant after ICE requested it hold him until agents could detain him. The sheriff's office said it did not want to abridge his rights. Later, he was charged with killing 32-year-old Timothy Cruz.
Liberals are pro-illegal- immigration so they can sleep better and talk about what great humanitarians they are at cocktail parties. I wonder if they would sing the same tune if it was their family member killed in San Francisco or Denver. Peter Provenzale Somerset, NJ
Judge Orrick not only bundled $200,000 for Barack Obama, he’s the judge who issued a restraining order against an advocacy group exposing Planned Parenthood’s sinister selling of baby organs.
In Federalist No. 78, Alexander Hamilton argued that the judiciary was necessarily the least dangerous branch. On the contrary, it’s become the most dangerous branch. James Hyland Beechhurst
