He just ‘pop’ped off
Knifes baby’s nabber
He messed with the wrong dad.
A Brooklyn father attacked a man who ran off with his baby early Saturday, chasing the would-be kidnapper down and stabbing him multiple times after grabbing back the boy, police said.
The infant was uninjured in the early-morning chaos at a Flatbush apartment building, but the alleged baby snatcher was left in critical condition.
The suspect, an acquaintance known to the parents as Andre, had entered the family’s sixth-floor apartment after getting into a squabble with them in the hallway, sources said.
With the baby in hand, the man ran down several flights of stairs to the basement of the Ocean Avenue building with the 27-year-old dad in hot pursuit, according to the sources.
It was unclear why the suspect took the child.
A neighbor heard the child’s mother screaming just before 4 a.m.
“What do you mean? What is going on? . . . Did you leave the baby in the car? What is happening?” she shrieked, according to the neighbor.
“She was confused, like she was trying to find the baby,” the neighbor said. “You could tell she was frantic and trying to gather her thoughts.”
The neighbor then heard the apartment door being flung open and people running and fighting in a stairwell.
“It sounded like someone was fighting for their life,” said the neighbor, who did not want to be identified by name.
“No, no, stop it! What are you doing?” the mom yelled, according to the neighbor.
“You heard the fight,” the neighbor recalled. “And then there was no more talking ... The screams just stopped.”
The father ripped his son out of the man’s arms before stabbing the abductor, sources said.
The stabbed man was taken to Downstate Medical Center in critical condition. The dad was taken into police custody but had not been charged as of Saturday afternoon.
Neighbors described the couple as quiet.
