KP: Emoji use proof I didn’t send Clippers-loving tweet
Kristaps Porzingis claimed it was not he who issued a loving tweet to the Clippers late Saturday night.
Sunday afternoon, Porzingis tweeted that his account “was hacked” and he “alerted twitter and they are looking into the incident.”
“I don’t even use that emoji smiley face,” Porzingis wrote, followed by three crying laughing emoji faces.
Earlier, a source said Porzingis’ handlers are investigating the situation and the people who have access to his account. The source said Porzingis is not the only person who has permission to tweet using his account, and the handlers were looking into how the account was accessed.
The suspiciously timed tweet was deleted soon after, but not before a screen shot was taken of the words “LA Clippers’’ with three smiling emojis.
The tweet was posted at 8 p.m. Eastern time, which would have been after 2 a.m. in Europe. Porzingis is believed to be in Spain because he posted another tweet that day of him swapping jerseys with Barcelona soccer star Neymar.
Adding intrigue is the fact model Abigail Ratchford followed suit by tweeting “Clippers’’ in reaction — before hers, too, was deleted. She has been described as Porzingis’ friend.
The mysterious tweet occurred amid speculation Carmelo Anthony could be dealt to the Clippers this summer, and a day after an ESPN.com report stated some teams inquired about Porzingis’ availability after he missed the season-ending exit meeting with Knicks president Phil Jackson.
The two still have not spoken, and Jackson said after the missed meeting that nobody on the roster was untouchable, including Porzingis.
Porzingis is dissatisfied with how the organization is run, with Jackson looking to ship out Anthony, his mentor, but Porzingis told The Post before leaving for Latvia last month he wants to be a Knick next season.
The Knicks expect to reengage the Clippers in Anthony trade talks.
Some NBA executives believe the Knicks and Clippers will hone in on a sign-and-trade deal with J.J. Redick, who owns a place in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn, and Austin Rivers.
Adding free agent Blake Griffin does not make sense for the Knicks because of Griffin’s injury history. The Clippers don’t have a firstround pick to deal until 2021.
