‘Cover’ gal’s dress surprise

- RAQUEL LANERI

SHE may not have been marrying royalty, but Pippa Middleton sure dressed like a princess on her wedding day. The 33-year-old bride arrived at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield Saturday morning wearing a high-necked, capsleeved guipure lace gown with a sweeping, full skirt. Big sis Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, while not part of the wedding party, did help fluff and smooth her little sister’s train, looking chic and low-key in a blush Alexander McQueen dress with matching fascinator.

The wedding gown, by British couturier Giles Deacon, was a surprising choice, mostly because it was so covered-up. After all, Middleton and her derriere sky- rocketed to fame at Kate’s own high-profile ceremony in a sinuous, body-skimming Alexander McQueen number. Plus, the “gym rat” bride had been reportedly toning her stems in the run-up to the big day at London’s “Leg School to the Stars.”

The guests let the bride shine, arriving in mostly tasteful, elegant and rather dull ensembles. Mother of the bride Carole arrived in a demure pale pink car coat with matching hat and bag and a pair of pointy nude pumps. Even Princess Eugenie — who has never met a flamboyant fascinator she didn’t love — looked disappointingly tame in a simply navy frock and cream-colored pillbox hat.

Thank goodness then for Princess Charlotte and Prince George, who certainly livened things up in their adorable flower-girl and pageboy costumes. Charlotte’s flower-crown and cream dress with a pink bow sash looked straight out of a children’s story book, while George managed to make chartreuse knickerbockers look cool.
