NJ Transit’s summer plan
Only the NJ Transit Morris and Essex Line’s Midtown Direct service will be affected by work at Penn Station from July through Labor Day, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said on Tuesday.
Instead of traveling on to Manhattan, trains on that line will go no further than Hoboken, where passengers will switch to the PATH or ferries, he said.
Those services will honor NJ Transit fares, which will be reduced by about half, he explained.
Riders on other lines shouldn’t experience significant delays, he said.
Recent derailments and other problems at the station have pushed Amtrak to begin replacing aging tracks and other equipment, a critical stop on the Northeast Corridor.
