Rosen will not be moved

ONLY in New York. One of the city’s most powerful real estate moguls, Aby Rosen, is facing the auctioning off of his longtime home, a limestone townhouse he leases at 5 E. 80th St. The property is to be auctioned off by the US Marshals Service in June, following a judgment issued against Rosen’s landlord, the Real Deal reported. Rosen has rented the property for 15 years, carried out extensive renovations and married his wife Dr. Samantha Boardman on its rooftop terrace in 2005. The building was also famously once home to Imelda Marcos. But, in January, a New York judge ruled that a company with a judgment against the property’s current owner — the African nation of Niger — could seize it. The house was deemed to be Niger’s largest asset. The property will be auctioned June 27 with a minimum starting bid of $15 million, well below market value. Although being kicked out of a building by new owners is a familiar story to many New Yorkers, Rosen told Page Six he won’t be homeless: “I hope to buy it at a low price, which is great for me. I still have a 15-year lease on the property so it is not going to be so attractive to other buyers.” Rosen and his business partner Michael Fuchs own Lever House at 390 Park Ave. and the nearby Seagram Building, home to the prestigious new restaurant the Grill, which was launched with Major Food Group’s Mario Carbone, Jeff Zalaznick and Rich Torrisi. A listing for the 25-foot-wide, six-story, 80th Street property says it spans 12,000 square feet and has its own elevator, but that there is “no current access for inspections, interior photos or floor plans.” The listing with George Vanderploeg of Douglas Elliman says that the property is valued at $47 million. Rosen’s current lease runs through 2022, with an option to extend to 2032.
