Cuomo’s Penn Sta. Cash Plea

-

Gov. Cuomo, eyeing 2020, plays the hero by asking President Trump to consider Penn Station’s crumbling infrastructure “an emergency situation” and provide federal funding to help Amtrak make critical repairs (“‘Disaster’ area,” May 22).

Approval of these funds should come with the condition that Cuomo publicly explain how the state used the $31 billion New York received from the Obama administration’s 2010 stimulus package, a good percentage of which was to be used for shovel- ready infrastructure jobs. Proper use of those funds could have prevented this nightmare.

The chickens are coming home to roost, and every angry, frustrated commuter should remember this when they go to the polls in 2018 and 2020. Joe Alloy Wayne, NJ

Cuomo’s latest act of begging is the best yet. Cuomo has done everything he can to oppose President Trump and now has the gall to ask the president for funds to fix the horrible condition at Penn Station.

Amtrak created this problem, and it should fix it with no new assistance from the federal government. Dave Marsh Clearwater, Fla.

Cuomo’s request for federal funds is what happens when fares are kept artificially low and the system is starved for cash. Robert Greco Staten Island
