KP FOR THE KO?
It would’ve been more appropriate if his opponent were wearing a Phil Jackson mask, but Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis has made good on his promise to take up boxing this offseason.
The disgruntled Porzingis posted photos Tuesday on his Instagram of a sparring session with Mairis Briedis, a world-renowned Latvian cruiserweight, to show he’s getting out his frustrations in the ring.
Before the season finale in April, Porzingis said he would experiment this offseason with boxing as a training method, calling it “a huge summer” to get stronger.
“I’ll be doing a little bit of something I haven’t done before that’s not attached to basketball maybe that will help my game,” Porzingis said. “I’ll experiment a bit over the summer.”
At a press conference upon his return to Latvia in late April, Porzingis added his plan was to spar with Briedis for a couple of weeks.
“I just like boxing,” Porzingis said. “I’ll try not to hurt him.”
Briedis is 6-foot-1 and weighed in for his last fight at 199.5 pounds. Porzingis is listed on the Knicks roster at 7-3, 240 pounds.
