A man arrested in the shooting deaths of eight people in Mississippi allegedly confessed while still in handcuffs Sunday morning — saying he planned to commit suicide by cop but ran out of ammunition.

“My intentions was to have y’all kill me. I ran out of bullets,” Willie Cory Godbolt told a reporter from The Clarion-Ledger in an exchange captured on video. “Suicide by cop was my intention.”

Godbolt, 35, allegedly killed the eight victims, including a sheriff ’s deputy and several relatives, at three separate homes in rural Lin- coln County on Saturday night.

Sitting on the ground in cuffs after his arrest, Godbolt said the deputy wasn’t a target — that he was speaking with his wife and other relatives about custody of his kids but neighbors called the police.

“My pain wasn’t designed for him. He was just there,” Godbolt said. “We was talking about me trying to take the children home, and somebody called the officer . . . That’s what they do, they intervene. It cost him his life. I’m sorry.”

Godbolt claimed he went on the shooting rampage because he loves his wife, kids and Bogue Chitto, an incorporated community around 70 miles from Jackson, The Clarion-Ledger reports.

“I love my wife. I love my kids,” Godbolt yelled as police pinned him down on the ground. “They would not let me live and let live. I just wanted to live. I just wanted to love my family.”

Asked what comes next for him, Godbolt replied: “Death.”

“I ain’t fit to live. Not after what I done. Not in y’all eyes, not in nobody else’s eyes but God — he forgives you for everything,” he added.

Three women were shot alongside Deputy William Durr, 36, at 11:30 p.m. in Bogue Chitto, in addition to two boys at another home, and a man and woman at a third residence, both in nearby Brookhaven, according to police.

Authorities have not yet identified any of the other victims, but Godbolt’s stepfather, who witnessed the shooting, told The Associated Press they included his wife, Barbara Mitchell, her daughter, Toccarra May, and sister, Brenda May.

Durr was a two-year veteran of the Lincoln County Sheriff ’s Office and had worked as a cop for four years elsewhere before that.

Godbolt was also shot sometime before his arrest, and authorities took him to a local hospital for treatment.
