Kushner Russia denial
President Trump’s son-inlaw and top aide, Jared Kushner, did not try to implement a back-channel line of communication with Russia, despite reports saying he asked Moscow officials to develop one during a meeting in December, a source said Monday.
In fact, the idea was floated by the Russians, themselves during Kushner’s talk with Ambassador Sergei Kislyak at Trump Tower, according to Fox News.
The pair had wanted to use the line to discuss the situation in Syria, although it’s unclear if they ever actually developed it.
According to a recent Washington Post report, it was Kushner who conjured up the idea as a way to protect his pre-inauguration talks with Kislyak.
But the Fox source insisted that the meeting focused only on the Obama administration’s Syria policy.
Kushner has come under fire in recent days after The Washington Post revealed he was a target of the FBI’s Russia investigation.
