‘Curtains’ for decorator? or?

-

A wealthy couple is accusing a “rogue interiorior de-designer” of stealing over $1 million from them in a Ponzi-Ponzilike scheme and feathering his own nest. Wendydy and Robert Goodfriend hired LA designer David Phoenix hoenix — who’s worked for Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, among others, and dated “Will & Grace” star Sean Hayes — for their 19,000-square-re-foot Palm Desert, Calif., property. In a suit filed Thursdayday in LA, the couple claims they hired Phoenix in 20133 and paid for him to fly to Milan, Paris, New York andd At-Atlanta to buy expensive fabrics and furniture, forfor which they shelled out. But eventually the pair — who are being repped by Hollywood power attorneyey Marty Singer — claim that after paying $4 million,n, they realized that either the goods never arrived, or they got much cheaper ones than they’d paid for.r. The Goodfriends allege that Phoenix was using some of the fancy merchandise they bought for his own home. An attorney for Phoenix, Lincoln n Bandlow, told us, “The Goodfriends proved them-mselves to be neither good nor friends, but in fact to bebe terrible clients and awful people. This is a garden-va-variety breach of contract action that, in the properer forum, will be demonstrated to be entirely withoutut merit.” He said Phoenix has a sterling reputation as “one of the finest interior designers in the world”d” and that “the focus in this matter will very quicklyckly shift to the Goodfriends’ own improper and illegalegal actions taken towards Mr. Phoenix.” The couple filed suit in May, but have since “learned that Phoenixx is in effect operating a ‘Ponzi scheme,’ apparently usingg mon-monies received from one client to address other clients’clients’ long-standing complaint, as well as to fund his lavish lifestyle and luxury office,” they allege in an amendedmended complaint filed Thursday.
