MLB: Pirates rally past Marlins, Stanton hurt Jordy Mercer hit a tying two-run triple in the eighth and John Jaso followed with a go-ahead double, lifting the Pirates over the Marlins, 7-6, on Saturday in Pittsburgh.

Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton was hit by a pitch on the wrist in the first inning and left the game. The team said X-rays were negative and that Stanton is day-to-day with a bruised wrist.

In Boston, Chris Sale outlasted Justin Verlander to win his seventh straight decision, and the Red Sox pulled away late to beat the Tigers 11-3. Sale pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on nine hits, striking out seven without issuing a walk.

Robinson Chirinos nearly put Texas ahead during a ninth-inning rally that tied it, then hit a three-run homer in the 11th that sent the Rangers over the Nationals, 6-3, in Washington.

In St. Louis, Carlos Martinez struck out 11 in a complete-game shutout and the Cardinals defeated the Phillies, 7-0. Jedd Gyorko drove in three runs.

In Chicago, Mark Reynolds and Charlie Blackmon homered, Jeff Hoffman pitched into the seventh inning and the Rockies won their seventh straight, beating the Cubs, 9-1. GOLF: Three share third-round lead at St. Jude

Rafa Cabrera Bello shot a 5-under 65 to join Ben Crane and Stewart Cink in a three-way tie for the lead after three rounds at the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn. Crane shot a 68 while Cink had a 69 to tie Cabrera Bello at 9-under 201.

In Des Moines, Iowa, Brandt Jobe shot a six-under 66 to take a share of the lead following the second round of the PGA Tour Champions event in Des Moines, Iowa. Jobe and Glen Day will enter the final round at 11-under 133.

In Cambridge, Ontario, Lexi Thompson shot a 67 for a 17-under 199 total and a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Manulife LPGA Classic. TENNIS: Sharapova out of Wimbledon qualifier

Maria Sharapova has pulled out of Wimbledon qualifying because of an injured left thigh. Sharapova said that the muscle tear she got at the Italian Open last month will not allow her to compete at grass-court tournament­s she was scheduled to play.
