MTA ASSIGNS 'HOME WORK'

Long Island Rail Road

A.M. rush: Two canceled trains, 13 diverted to Atlantic Terminal, Hunter’s Point and Jamaica, representi­ng about 20 percent of the LIRR’s morning rush-hour trains into Manhattan. The MTA will add extra cars to 16 trains.

P.M. rush: Seven canceled trains, 10 diverted with new starting points at Atlantic Terminal, Hunter’s Point and Jamaica. The agency will add extra cars to 13 trains.

The MTA also plans to run ferry service from Long Island City and Glen Cove to East 34th Street in Manhattan.

There will also be eight new park-andride locations: Bar Beach-Port Washington, Melville, Roosevelt Field Mall, Belmont Park, Nassau Coliseum, Bethpage State Park, Valley Stream LIRR station and Seaford LIRR station.

The MTA is also working with the city to create HOV lanes into the Queens Midtown Tunnel and create new bus stops along 34th and 42nd streets.

NJ Transit

Midtown Direct trains on Morristown and Gladstone lines terminate at Hoboken, except for four Morristown Line trains that get to Penn Station earlier than 7 a.m.

Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line trains will experience “minor time changes.”

Raritan Valley, Main/Bergen, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines will all run regular service with “minor adjustment­s,” such as different connection­s or trains skipping stops.

No changes for weekend service.

Amtrak

Northeast Regional service will lose three round-trip daily trains between New York City and Washington, DC, from July 10 to Sept. 1. There will be no changes to the Acela Express service between Boston and DC.
