Coney’s Mermaid rain dancin’

These mermaids weren’t going to let a little water rain on their parade.

Over 3,000 revelers got wet n’ wild on Surf Avenue for this year’s Coney Island Mermaid Parade on Saturday, despite a downpour that lasted hours.

“This is our everything. Rain or shine, the parade was going to happen,” said Park Slope resident Nicole Mayer, who was decked out in pasties, glitter and fishnets.

“We’re all sea creatures, so we’ll pretend like we’re swim- ming,” joked Long Islander John Zolezzi, 27, who was dressed as a purple octopus. “It’s totally worth it.”

In fact, the shower brought the theme full circle, the parade organizer and founder Dick Zigun said. “The Mermaid Parade looks more photogenic when the mermaids are wet.”

Blondie singer Debbie Harry and bandmate Chris Stein were the annual parade’s guests of honor.
