Mass. ferryboat crash hurts 18

Eighteen people were injured when a high-speed ferryboat struck a jetty in Hyannispor­t, Mass., and began taking on water, authoritie­s said Saturday.

The ferry Iyanough hit the jetty and grounded on the rocks at the Hyannis Harbor entrance Friday night.

The vessel serves a route between Hyannis and the island of Nantucket.

Hyannis acting Fire Chief Dean Melanson said 15 of the injured were taken to a hospital.

It was unclear how the crash happened, said Steamship Authority General Manager Wayne Lamson.
