Upgrade on Scalise condition
Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise’s condition was upgraded from “critical” to “serious” Saturday as he continued to show signs of improvement, three days after he was shot on a baseball field practicing for the annual Republican-Democrat congressional baseball game.
Medstar Washington Hospital Center released the medical update on behalf of the Scalise family.
The congressman underwent another surgery Saturday, and the hospital said he was more responsive and speaking with family.
Meanwhile, James Hodgkinson, who was shot dead by Capitol police after shooting Scalise and others at the practice, had with him a piece of paper listing the names of three lawmakers, according to a person familiar with the case.
The person told The Associated Press Saturday that investigators don’t know if the names were those of Republican members of Congress he was targeting.
The source spoke on condition of anonymity.
