Make North Korea Pay For Otto Warmbier’s Death

THE ISSUE: The US student imprisoned in North Korea who was returned home in a coma and died this week.

-

My heart is so broken for the Warmbier family; I wish I could do something that would help them through this horrible time (“Otto dies after his N. Korea release,” June 20).

My thoughts are with all who knew him. North Korea has to be held responsible, and we must be sure that they pay consequences! God bless you, Otto. Jean Cole Juno Beach, Fla

The tragic death of Otto Warmbier can be attributed to a feckless Obama State Department and, of course, the brutal regime of Kim Jong-un.

If possible, Kim should be charged with murder and tried in absentia in US courts. Jack McGuire Effort, Pa.

President Trump continues to be blamed for everything that goes wrong both nationally and internationally.

Tragic circumstances have befallen the Warmbier family: Their son Otto lost his life due to the brutality of his North Korean captors.

Who can say that Otto wouldn’t be alive and thriving today if President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State John Kerry had forcefully interceded on his behalf after his arrest in January 2016?

It takes guts to make unpopular decisions that could impact one’s presidency negatively.

It takes leadership, which is what we have now in our much-maligned current president. Colette Curry Staten Island

President Trump once openly praised Kim Jong-un as a young man who had to overcome and thwart others to become the leader of North Korea.

Now Kim returns a victim of his torture to die at home. What’s wrong with this picture? Ray Hackinson Ozone Park

With the cruel death of Warmbier, it’s time for Trump to take direct action against North Korea.

First, regardless of diplomatic niceties including UN privileges, he should expel every North Korean official from the United States.

If such action is insufficient to bring justice for this murder, then the United States should take down North Korea’s electrical grid or blow something else up by cyber or similar means.

Oh, yes: Let Dennis Rodman remain there forever. Arnold S. Mazur Palm Beach Gardens
