Special-Election Sweep: GOPers Beat Dems 4-0

-

As the saying goes, “money can’t buy you love,” nor can $30 million buy you an election (“GOP in key Ga. victory,” June 21).

Georgia Republican Karen Handel beat Democrat Jon Ossoff, despite being massively outspent.

I’m sure the liberal media will stir up more fake news that the Russians caused the Democrats to lose again. Tommy Dejuilo New Rochelle

There were other special elections that were considered to be, in part, a referendum on President Trump. Democrats lost them.

It’s worth noting that while Ossoff got some 800 people in the voting district to contribute, more than 7,000 liberals in California also donated to his campaign, which ended up being the most expensive House race in history. Barry Levy Hawthorne, Calif.

The lesson to take away from the Georgia House race is that there is an urgent need for campaignfinance reform.

Clearly the need to raise such huge sums of money detracts from lawmakers ability to effectively represent the people in their district. It also creates a huge barrier for new candidates.

When campaigns rely so heavily on out-ofstate and PAC funding, it disenfranchises the voters within the district.

Campaign-financing is out of control. Congress must act before we lose equal representation under the law. Michael Townsley Old Saybrook, Conn.

Americans are sick and tired of the left-wing philosophy that has dragged down our country for the past eight years.

By my last count, the Republicans are 4-0 in special elections. The left just took a dive with the South Carolina, Georgia elections this week. There’s more to come for this great country. Skip McGrory Stewart Manor

So the California carpetbaggers and their millions still couldn’t buy the Democrats a congressional seat in Georgia.

Maybe if they quit lying and tried putting Americans first, they’d get somewhere. Joseph Beyhl Holtsville

After losing hundreds of congressional, gubernatorial and local elections, the DNC still has no clue.

Some on the left are now claiming a moral victory because the loser had great support in a red district.

If Ossoff is the future of the Democratic Party, the future seems to have no positive agenda, just platitudes. Peter Provenzale Somerset, NJ
