Reyes may hold on to shortstop with Cabrera returning

LOS ANGELES — Asdrubal Cabrera is returning to the Mets, but at what position?

With Cabrera set to be activated from the disabled list Friday, manager Terry Collins plans to broach the idea of playing second base with the veteran infielder, allowing Jose Reyes to remain at shortstop.

Cabrera played second base with the Nationals in 2014.

But Collins hasn’t ruled out the possibility of moving Reyes to second base. Reyes last played the position in 2004, after the Mets signed free agent Kaz Matsui.

“Whatever TC does is fine with me,” Reyes said before the Mets faced the Dodgers on Thursday. “I’ve been in that situation [switching positions] a couple of times this year, so whatever they want me to do.”

As The Post previously reported, Collins earlier this season broached with Cabrera the idea of moving to third base. But Cabrera was against the idea and the manager didn’t force the issue.

Reyes said the drama following Yasiel Puig’s showboating Wednesday night was over. Puig took 32 seconds to round the bases after hitting a home run and jawed with Wilmer Flores and Travis d’Arnaud. Later, between innings, Reyes and Yoenis Cespedes lectured Puig.

“If you hit a homer, run the bases,” Reyes said. “Don’t walk for four or five steps and then run slow.”

Michael Conforto was on the bench for a second straight game because Collins wanted to keep Curtis Granderson in the lineup, a night after the veteran outfielder homered and doubled.

Collins cited Jay Bruce’s two homers in six at-bats against Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu for keeping Bruce in the lineup.

Rafael Montero will start Sunday in San Francisco, according to Collins, allowing the Mets to maintain the rest of the rotation they mapped out before Zack Wheeler was placed on the disabled list.
