$1M campaign vs. O’Care-repeal bill foe

President Trump’s camp is playing political hardball to bring a reluctant Republican senator in line behind the GOP’s health-care bill.

America First Policies, the issues nonprofit helmed by Trump campaign staffers to back his plans, will buy $1 million of ads critical of Nevada Sen. Dean Heller, according to Politico.

Heller, facing an uphill re-elec- tion battle in the purple state in 2018, said Friday that he opposes the Senate ObamaCare repeal bill.

“It’s going to be very difficult to get me to a yes,” Heller said, pinning his stance on the law’s rollback of Medicaid funding.

Nevada is one of 31 states that expanded its Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act — and was the first of only nine Republican-run states to do so.

America First’s digital, TV, and radio ads will slam Heller as a “typical politician,” insiders said — but could shift to softer rhetoric if the senator joined negotiations over the bill.

Senate conservatives Rand Paul of Kentucky, Mike Lee of Utah, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Ted Cruz of Texas said Thursday they opposed the bill, but were “open to negotiation.”

Trump pushed the Senate plan with a Saturday morning tweet that blasted Democrats.

“Democrats slam GOP healthcare proposal as Obamacare pre- miums & deductibles increase by over 100%,” he tweeted at 8:51 a.m. “Remember keep your doctor, keep your plan?”

He was referring to former President Barack Obama’s promise in 2009 that the Affordable Care Act would let people keep their existing insurance plans and doctors.

Many Americans who bought health insurance before ObamaCare took effect found their policies canceled under the law’s stringent coverage requirements.
