X-rays on Conforto hand are negative

- By MIKE PUMA

SAN FRANCISCO — Michael Conforto has a sore left hand, but is grateful the situation isn’t worse.

The Mets’ outfielder was diagnosed with a contusion on the hand — X-rays were negative — after he was drilled by lefty Matt Moore in the fifth inning of the Mets’ 8-2 victory over the Giants on Sunday.

METS NOTES

Conforto initially remained in the game, but later had trouble gripping a bat. He was replaced in left field by Brandon Nimmo in the sixth inning.

“I felt like I had pretty good movement in my hand and once we did some tests I kind of realized it was probably not broken,” Conforto said.

But Conforto said it’s too early to determine if he will be available for Tuesday’s game against the Marlins.

“It’s pretty stiff right now, so we will keep treating it,” Conforto said.

Zack Wheeler threw a 72pitch bullpen session, and could be activated from the disabled list to pitch against the Phillies on Friday or Saturday at Citi Field. The right-hander was placed on the disabled list last week with biceps tendinitis.

Chasen Bradford made his major league debut by pitching a scoreless ninth inning in which he permitted one hit and one walk, allowing the Mets to avoid using closer Addison

Reed. After Bradford put two runners on base with two outs, Reed was dispatched to the bullpen and threw several warmup tosses. Reed was ultimately not needed as Denard Span struck out to end the game.

The Mets hit four homers, giving them 46 for June to set a franchise record for most in one month. The Mets hit 45 homers in August 2015 and 2016.

Yoenis Cespedes and Jose Reyes were given days off from starting, allowing Conforto and T.J. Rivera to slide into the lineup.
