Make sure your tray tables are in an upright position — and pray!

A pilot implored his terrified passengers to beg God for a safe return to the airport after they heard a “huge bang” from the engine and their plane began shaking like a “washing machine” Sunday morning, according to reports.

“[The pilot] said, ‘I hope you all say a prayer, I will be saying a prayer, too, and let’s hope we all get back home safely,’ ” passenger Sophie Nicholas told The West Australian newspaper of the “terrifying” ordeal.

Alarming footage captured the AirAsia X flight from Perth, Australia, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, gyrating violently after the plane’s engine failed more than an hour into the trip.

“It was literally like you were sitting on top of a washing machine,” passenger Brenton Atkinson, 24, told Australia’s ABC. “The whole thing was going . . . Once we landed, we realized one of the blades had actually come off the turbine.”

Nicholas said she could tell from the cabin crew’s reaction that something was “really bad.”

The Airbus A330 returned to Perth as emergency vehicles stood by — but the plane landed without incident and its 359 passengers were transferred to later flights, AirAsia told the ABC.

The Transit Safety Bu- reau told The West Australian that the flight crew had detected “moderate airframe vibrations,” causing its No. 1 engine to fail during cruise mode. As a result, the plane could not maintain altitude.

AirAsia says it is conducting an investigation into what went wrong, along with its engine manufacturer, Rolls-Royce.

The airline offers flights from Australia to Malaysia for just a few hundred bucks — but Sunday’s incident should make people think twice before booking on low-cost carriers, an airline consultant said.

“If the difference in the fare was $200, is my life worth $200?” Neil Hansford, the chairman of Strategic Aviation Solutions in Australia, asked the ABC.
