Lawmakers rip loud-party rule
Nearly half the City Council wants the NYPD to rescind an order that bars cops handling noise complaints from entering a home unless they’re invited in.
A letter signed by 23 of the council’s 51 members says the directive, first revealed by The Post, “will have a chilling impact on the NYPD’s efforts to preserve quality of life for countless New Yorkers.”
“House parties and other activities that disrupt the peace with unreasonable or excessive noise are in violation of the law and warrant immediate noise abatement,” the letter to Commissioner James O’Neill reads.
“You can easily get 1,000 people at a house party nowadays just from talk on social media,” said Councilman Donovan Richards (D-Queens).
