Remembering a City Hero: Officer Familia’s Legacy
I am deeply saddened by the brutal assassination of 48-year-old Miosotis Familia, a 12-year veteran of the NYPD and a beloved mother of three precious children.
She was killed by a fatal shot to the head as she worked in a command patrol vehicle in The Bronx. This unprovoked senseless act of deadly violence is unacceptable.
My thoughts, prayers and sympathies go out to Officer Familia’s entire family. Rest in peace, Officer Familia. Arthur Mackey Roosevelt
During the early hours of July 5, an NYPD officer was assassinated as she sat protecting the neighborhood to which she was assigned, perhaps hoping to make it home early enough to wake her children.
This summer, one that should have been happy and memorable, will be a horrific reminder of a great loss, all due to a miscreant who did not value his own life, let alone someone else’s.
I have known too many deaths in the NYPD. I’ve been working with the NYPD for over 44 years; no death hurts any less than the last. You can never walk away from the emptiness and the heartbreaking pain of loss.
This loss is only compounded by laws that keep getting changed without evaluation. “Stop and frisk” is sadly a necessary evil if we want lawabiding citizens to live in a peaceful environment. My prayers and thoughts go out to Officer Familia’s family, friends and colleagues. Sharon Cesario Brooklyn
The NYPD and the city mourn the senseless assassination of another heroic officer.
Alexander Bonds was a low-life career criminal on parole who probably should’ve still been in jail when he shot Officer Familia in cold blood.
When are courts and judges going to get it that people like Bonds don’t belong on our streets? Joseph Cavaliere Valley Stream
Officer Familia was gunned down by Bonds, who amassed a rap sheet of prior convictions that extend from The Bronx to Secaucus.
Some of these convictions, including the beating of another police officer using brass knuckles, should have placed him in solitary for a few decades. Why was this man free?
I pray that Familia’s children find comfort in their mother’s dedication and bravery. Robert Lobenstein Brooklyn
