Bx. scare on 'Oak' Street

- By RICHARD HARBUS and SHARI LOGAN slogan@nypost.com

A tree fell in The Bronx on Tuesday — a very big tree.

The thick oak tree snapped at its base at around 9:45 a.m. and came crashing down onto the street — crushing a car (above) and completely obstructing the quiet block.

The tree just missed striking a home at 336 E. 238th St. in Woodlawn Heights.

A parked silver Ford, however, wasn’t so lucky and was left flattened. A dark-colored Mitsubishi parked on the other side of the street and three homes also were damaged.

“I was in the living room relaxing. Then I heard a little noise as if something dropped in the kitchen,” said Gjeto Vushay, 70, who lives at 331 E. 238th. “I got up and looked and it was nothing. When I was coming back, I saw the tree falling down.

“It was like a bomb. It was very scary. Then I heard screaming, but I don’t know where it was coming from.”

Vushay’s son, Tom, said he’s usually outside on the porch with his 8-month-old daughter — but fortunately slept in on Tuesday.

“The city should have taken care of this a long time ago,” Vushay said. “The tree is huge. I’m really angry with the city, but thank God no one was in the street and everybody is safe.”

The FDNY said one woman, who was in her garden, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center.

Fire officials were on scene to cut and remove the tree, which had a 48-inch base.

A woman who identified herself as the owner of the crushed Ford said, “I have bad luck.”

A Parks Department source said the tree was last inspected in July 2016 and showed no signs of poor health.
