Rosario tries begging his wayy to Mets call-up

- By MIKE PUMA

Begging for a promotion probably isn’t going to get Amed Rosario anywhere.

The Mets top prospect took to Twitter on Friday, posting: “On my knees and I just want to propose to Queens – NY that is. AR = Amed is Ready … #Facts#Dontbesurprisedbeready.”

Rosario, who represented the Mets in the All-Star Futures game on Sunday, later deleted the Tweet.

Mets general manager Sandyd Alderson pointed to the fact Jose Reyes entered play batting .306 over his past 21 games as one reason the team hasn’t promoted Rosario. Reyes stayed red-hot, going 3-for-5 with an RBI in the Mets’ 14-2 blowout win over the Rockies.

Rosario is regarded as a top defensive player, but Alderson said that alone isn’t reason to promote him.

“I think it’s a little simplistic to say if we insert one player, we’re going to solve the defensive issues that we face at seven or eight positions,” Alderson said. “I understand that everybody wants to see Rosario in a Mets uniform — so do I.”

Former pitcher Bob Ojeda says the Mets are guilty of believing their own hype about the team’s starting pitchers.

“There were some big predictions on these guys and I’m not just talking externally, but internally,” said Ojeda, who pitched for the Mets’ last World Series-winning team in 1986.

“They were sold with their résumés as guys who would roll through the league. But guys who have only pitched three years, you really don’t know what you have. I think it was completely oversold. Reality set in, and that is the way the game is.”

Ojeda is scheduled to sign autographs and take photos Sunday at noon at Empire City Casino in Yonkers. He later will watch the Rockies-Mets game with fans at Dan Rooney’s.

The Mets are among the worst teams in the major leagues defensively by most metrics — they committed an error that led to an unearned run Friday — but Alder- son said he doesn’t envision changing a philosophy that puts the greatest emphasis on pitching and offense.

“What really is important on [the defensive] side of the ball is our pitching, and our pitching has been lousy,” Alderson said. “That is partly because of injury and partly because of performance otherwise.

“You would like to have the best possible defense and the most possible athleticism across the board. We haven’t had both of those things to the extent we would like this season. They would both be areas we would like to improve.”
