Metal-detector-wielding treasure hunters have been banned from an upper Hudson River island where a colonial American archaeology dig is taking place.

Excavations are underway for the first time in 20 years on Rogers Island in Fort Edward, the site of a frontier post that was Britain’s largest fort in North America.
