Discovery fired back at Twitter users who lit up the social media landscape Sunday night, slamming the network’s telecast of “Phelps vs. Shark,” in which Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps “raced” a Great White Shark. (Some were angry that the broadcast didn’t actually show Phelps racing a Great White side-by-side — which would have been nearly impossible.) “All the promotion, interviews and the program itself made clear that the challenge wasn’t a side-by-side race,” the network said in a statement. “The show took smart science and technology to make the challenge more accessible and fun.
