This p.r. office has seen it all
THE Magrino p.r. office’s 25th anniversary celebrated at the Rainbow Room. “Just 300 close friends,” said Susan
Magrino. I envied her. Whothehell has 300 close friends?
Michael Douglas: “Susan helped me 20 years ago when I first had my place in Bermuda.” He remained gracious when 299 nonclose friends
crowded him to mutter they once saw him in some whoknowswhere elevator someplace.
Martha Stewart: “I, the Magrinos’ first client, said, to start your own business, don’t borrow money from anybody but your father. They did that and paid him back in a year.”
Foodie Mimi Sheraton: “Restaurants today need investments back faster so nothing’s simple or plain anymore. But meals, recipes, menus will all change soon when Instagram starts sending out lots of fresh international ideas.”
Bernadette Castro, the former itsy cutesy childsy who in the Ice Age hauled out her family’s Castro convertibles: “They still sell, but now it’s over the Internet. I’m thinking of writing a book about my life.”
The Magrino agency once sent hot rod vintage cars down Fifth Avenue to herald an IPO. Served croissants to traders on the floor of the NYSE. Took Le Cirque meetings with Sirio Maccioni screaming, his large dogs barking and produce arriving. And, before their gala for Tom Wolfe’s follow-up novel to “Bonfire of the Vanities” — their offices burnt up.
The party was Tuesday. Close friends are still arriving.
