The Health-Reform Battle: End the Silly Games

-

When is Congress going to learn what “bipartisanship” truly means? (“The Real Health-Care Question,” Editorial, July 26)

The two parties are acting like opposing street gangs. ObamaCare is about to choke the country, and Democrats and Republicans can’t come together with a sound solution, so we all suffer.

Grow up and act like the intelligent men and women for whom the citizens of this great country voted. All we hear is bickering. D. Mann Miller Place

Democrats want us to believe ObamaCare needs to be protected to avoid loss of coverage for many citizens.

The fact is ObamaCare will never work and no amount of changes to it will avoid total collapse.

But the real goal for Democrats is to make sure the collapse occurs soon after some Republican “fixes” are in place, so Democrats can then rescue the nation with single-payer.

But single-payer is not the answer because Americans will have zero say in health-care matters and costs.

The government needs to get out of our lives and let us deal with insurers who will compete to provide health-care plans that we choose and can afford. Sal Bifulco Jackson, NJ

Our lawmakers are concerned that any new health-care plan or revisions will place heavy burdens on the budget.

Their cost estimates toss about hundreds of millions of dollars with the same abandon with which I pay my $40 gas bill.

These discussions about the effect on the rich, the poor, the disabled and the elderly are their excuses to do nothing. They’re exempt from all this healthcare nonsense.

Congressmen don’t have to worry about shortfalls, deficits, etc. They all have gold health plans. They can pontificate from on high and tell us how selfish and inconsiderate we are.

Real courage would be their accepting the same health-care options we have. That’ll be the day. Emmanuel Gross Manhattan

Instead of focusing on the fact that US citizens pay twice the cost of other developed nations for health care with only a few more benefits, we’re focused on the ideological differences between the parties.

Once again our politicians are making fools of us. Larry Hootnick Manhattan

It would be nice if Americans could see a simple outline of the health-care plan and what needs to remain and what needs to change.

It would be nicer if the Democrats and Republicans would work together, rather than play party lines and politics when it comes to our health. Robert Stein Staten Island
