Davis: Jets not like ’16 Browns

- By BRIAN COSTELLO

The 2017 Jets remind a lot of people of the 2016 Browns because of how many young players are going to have critical roles on the team.

Demario Davis was on those Browns and is now on these Jets. The linebacker understands the comparison, but does not agree with it.

“I played with a young roster last year,” Davis said. “It’s similar here, but there are more veterans in this locker room than there were there. I think in hindsight you’d like to have experience around. I know from a defensive perspective there’s a lot of experience up front. You’ve got a cornerback [Morris Claiborne] who has been phenomenal in this league. The safeties are young, but they can play. We’ve got a chance to be fast and explosive defensively.”

Davis better hope he is right. Last year’s Browns went 1-15. Another year like that would be tough for any player to take.

Right guard Brian Win

had his season ended last year by a shoulder injury that required surgery. But Winters said he is completely recovered and will be practicing fully.

“I don’t expect any limitations,” Winters said. “I had a great offseason. I’m excited for this season. I don’t feel like I’ll be held back at all.”

Running back Matt Forte also said he is 100 percent after undergoing knee surgery in January.

“I’m in really good shape,” Forte said. “I feel good.” Offensive tackle Ben

Ijalana had a knee scope in May, but said he will be able to practice on a limited basis at the start of camp.

The Jets signed tight end Chris Gragg, who spent the past four seasons with the Bills.
