Manning pumped up for offense

- By PAUL SCHWARTZ

The whole package has not yet been put together: all of Eli Manning’s weapons, new and old, on the field for intensive workouts. Soon enough, however, the starting offense will practice together and already there is a sense this could be something exceptional.

“I think there is the possibility of us being a special group, a very talented group,’’ Manning said Friday. “It’s all going to come down to how do we perform, how do we practice and what are we doing game day.’’

Asked if this is the most talented offensive group he ever has had around him, Manning requested more time to make that determination.

“We’ll see,’’ said Manning, who welcomes wide receiver Brandon Marshall and rookie tight end Evan Engram to join Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard. “There’s some talented guys out there that can come together as a group, as a team, as an offense and put it all together. We have some new guys. We have to get on the same page with them.’’

DT Damon “Snacks’’ Harrison started camp riding a stationary bicycle. Coach Ben McAdoo said Harrison “is a little bit sore’’ in his lower body. Last year, Harrison also was kept out of action early in camp. … The first practice of camp was actually more of a walk-through, a quick 80-minute session. “Dusted them off really football-wise,’’ McAdoo said.

Remember when there was hubbub around Beckham’s absence from the organized team activity practices in the spring?

“He is one of those guys who looks like he could roll out of bed and run a 4.3,’’ McAdoo said. “He’s in tremendous condition.’’

Antonio Pierce, the starting middle linebacker on the 2007 Super Bowl team, is participating in

camp as a coaching intern.

“It’s good to have Antonio around,’’ McAdoo said. “I am excited for him to be a part of things this year and it’s a good get for us, a good bonus.’’

LB J.T. Thomas starts training camp on the physically unable to perform list. Thomas started 11 games for the Giants in 2015 but hurt his knee in last year’s seasonopener and spent the season on PUP.

“We are playing it smart with him,’’ McAdoo said. “We’ll see how it goes. He is making progress. He is not where we want him to be yet. Hopefully it is not anything that takes too long.’’
