Simpson beau is getting political

If anybody’s ready for the cutthroat world of politics, it’s this guy.

One candidate is bringing Hollywood-style drama to this year’s St. Petersburg, Fla., City Council election — he’s the boyfriend of O.J. Simpson’s daughter.

Robert Blackmon, who is dating the Juice’s youngest daughter, Sydney, says he’s going to let the voters decide if his gal pal’s connection to one of history’s most notorious murder suspects matters to them.

“If that’s the will of the people, that’s the will of the people,” Blackmon told The Post on Sunday. “I hope to keep [the campaign] to the issues.”

Blackmon, 28, is among eight candidates running for an open council seat.

He said his 31-year-old girlfriend is a “very private person,” and that she’s got his back.

“She’s been selflessly supporting me and not worried about herself,” he said.

Blackmon is vying to represent St. Pete’s District 6, which includes downtown and stretches of the city’s southeast end.

One of his campaign yard signs is planted in front of Sydney’s house.

“I probably shouldn’t be speaking about the Simpsons without their permission,” Blackmon said. “The entire Simpson family are great people. They’ve been great friends to me.”

It’s hard to tell whether Simpson’s name will give Blackmon a boost in recognition in a crowded field or turn out to be an albatross.

University of South Florida political science professor Susan MacManus said her gut feeling is that voters won’t hold Blackmon’s girlfriend against him.

“Just knowing someone, just being involved with someone [whose father is famous], I don’t know if that adds too much,” she said.

The primaries are on Aug. 29 with a runoff set for Nov. 7.
