Giants notes

- By PAUL SCHWARTZ

Rookie kicker Aldrick Rosas received his first work during training camp and went 4-for-4 on his field-goal attempts. Or did he? Rosas hit the first three cleanly and the fourth, from about 44 yards, appeared to hook just inside the right upright. The official stationed at the goal line signaled no good, though.

“In my eyes, I hit it clean and in my eyes it’s a make,’’ Rosas said, smiling.

That was the way Ben McAdoo’s eyes saw it as well.

“I never second-guess officials, we know that,’’ McAdoo said. “So I’m going to go in and take a look at the tape. I thought that one snuck in there, but we’ll take a look at it.’’

Altercations involving teammates during training camp are nothing new.

Having punches thrown while running wind sprints? Well, that’s a new one.

That is what transpired Sunday, involving CB Janoris Jenkins and safety Eric Pinkins. The defensive backs were running in a pack when the fisticuffs ensued. Pinkins was out ahead of Jenkins when the two had words. Jenkins threw a punch at Pinkins and the two had to be separated. It was the first show of temper at camp, coming on the third day of practice.

“You know how it is with family,’’ McAdoo said. “Sometimes you have some dustups. Some of the best dustups you’re ever in are with your family, so you learn from them and move on.’’

Jadar Johnson, an undrafted rookie safety from Clemson, left training camp and has retired from football.

“My reaction is I wish the man nothing but the best,’’ McAdoo said. “He’s a young man that has a bright future ahead of him.’’

McAdoo said he had “a personal conversation’’ with Johnson before Johnson’s departure.

Johnson’s agent, Trey Robinson, released a statement that, in part, explains the retirement as involving health concerns.

“After seriously weighing his options, Jadar has decided to retire from football today to pursue other interests,” the statement said. “This was not an easy decision for him to make, but it is the right decision for him. He has new ventures that he wants to pursue and he values his health. Jadar is very grateful to the Giants’ organization for the opportunity they provided him.’’

Rookie TE Evan Engram sees some similarities between himself and WR Brandon Marshall.

“A big body, fast receiver that goes and chases the ball,’’ Engram said. “That’s what I want to be. He’s been doing that for years and I would love to mold my game after his game in the receiving aspect.’’
