Police call for boycott after Bklyn store ‘won’t serve cops’

A cop-hating worker at a Brooklyn Dunkin’ Donuts refused to serve two of New York’s Finest — sparking a widespread NYPD boycott of the chain on Thursday.

“I don’t serve cops,” the insolent counter clerk declared, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

The head of the detectives union, Michael Palladino, said the blatant discrimination was “disgraceful and it should not go unattended.”

Palladino demanded an apology from the doughnut shop’s corporate parent and sent an e-mail to his union’s 5,200 members, urging them, their families and friends to “refrain from patronizing” Dunkin’ Donuts “until that happens.”

He also said the city’s elected of- ficials deserved blame for having “encouraged this type of behavior by constantly demonizing cops.”

Dunkin’ Brands spokeswoman Melissa King said that the “franchisee who owns and operates this restaurant . . . contacted one of the police officers involved to personally apologize for any negative experience he may have had in his store.”

But King stopped short of offering an official mea culpa to the NYPD, leading Palladino to say his boycott call remains in effect.

“I didn’t rush to judgment on the ban, and so I’m not rushing to judgment on lifting it,” he said.

The head of the sergeants union, Ed Mullins, also rejected the apology.

“Law enforcement should continue to boycott Dunkin’ Donuts until an example is made that this behavior will not be tolerated,” Mullins said.

“The employee should be fired. Dunkin’ Donuts’ corporate should insist the employee be removed from the franchise. Anything less indicates that corporate condones this behavior.”

The incident took place at around noon on Sunday at the combination Dunkin’ Donuts/ Baskin-Robbins at 1993 Atlantic Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where two officers assigned to the 73rd Precinct’s detective squad went to buy ice cream, sources said.

After waiting in line behind a customer, the cops — who were wearing suit pants, shirts and ties, with their badges and pistols on their belts — approached the counter but were ignored by a clerk who instead asked a man standing behind them what he wanted, sources said.

The worker continued to ignore the cops even after the man told him, “These two guys were ahead of me,” saying, “Yeah, I know, but I don’t serve cops.”

Shortly after The Post exclusively reported the incident online, Palladino said he was told a 73rd Precinct community-affairs officer wearing an NYPD windbreaker was also recently turned away from a walk-up window at the 24-hour doughnut shop.

“She went there, knocked on the window, waited, wanted to be served. They waved her off and wouldn’t serve her,” he said.

Dunkin’ Brands wouldn’t comment on that incident, saying, “We don’t have any specifics.”
