NYPD coerced us to ID innocent teen: duo

Two men from The Bronx say they were falsely arrested by NYPD detectives who coerced them to lie about a 2015 shooting and more than two dozen other cases, according to legal papers filed this week.

William Stevens claims he was cuffed for no reason at least 100 times since 2014 by Daniel Brady and David Terrell, detectives from the 42nd Precinct, and beaten into falsely stating he witnessed a minimum of 25 crimes he says he knew nothing about.

The claims are part of two separate notices filed Monday by Stevens and another man, Tyrese Revels, indicating their intent to sue the city, NYPD, Brady and Terrell, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office and prosecutor David Slott.

Stevens and Revels accuse the detectives and prosecutor of having threatened them if they did not identify a teen named Pedro Hernandez as the gunman in the July 12, 2015, shooting of Revels in The Bronx.

Terrell allegedly “threatened to beat [Revels] and ‘smash his head into the wall’ if he did not identify Pedro Hernandez as the person who shot him,” court papers said.

But Revels insisted to authorities on several occasions that he didn’t know Hernandez.

Hernandez, 17, garnered national attention for refusing to plead guilty to the 2015 shooting of Shaun Nardoni — a decision that kept him locked up on Rikers Island for a year until he was finally bailed out last month.

Stevens, who is currently serving time for attempted robbery, alleges he was also forced by Brady and Terrell to falsely finger Hernandez in the Nardoni shooting and a 2016 robbery.

“The story they concocted was that [Stevens] was sitting in the park and that Pedro Hernandez robbed him,” his $20 million notice of claim said. “[Stevens] initially refused but was beaten into submission by the detectives.”

Slott also tried coercing Stevens into identifying Hernandez for the robbery and two shootings, telling him it would be “very bad for him” if he didn’t and threatening him with arrest, the filing says.

Slott served as the assistant district attorney on several of the cases Stevens was coerced into lying about, court papers say.

Hernandez was ultimately arrested on the robbery charges, which were later dismissed. He was also cleared in the Revels shooting — and has vehemently denied involvement in the Nardoni case.

Revels’ notice of claim seeks $10 million in damages.

The Bronx DA’s Office said it does not comment on civil cases. The NYPD did not immediately return an e-mail seeking comment.
