Harvey set for rehab start Saturday

- By MIKE PUMA

PHILADELPHIA — Matt Harvey’s season is moving toward a return to the Mets.

The right-hander’s next step will be a stop Saturday for Single-A Brooklyn at the Hudson Valley Renegades in Wappingers Falls, where Harvey will make his first rehab start in his recovery from a stress injury in his right scapula.

Harvey, who has been on the disabled list since June, recently pitched a simulated game at Citi Field. After he makes his rehab appearance for Brooklyn, he will return to the Mets and throw a bullpen session and be evaluated by team officials for his next step.

In a nightmarish season, Harvey is 4-3 with a 5.25 ERA in 13 starts for the Mets. He also was suspended for three games in May following an unexcused absence from the team.

Juan Lagares was activated from the disabled list to take Jay Bruce’s roster spot. Lagares had been on the disabled list since June 16 with a fractured left thumb.

Michael Conforto batted cleanup for the first time this season, going 1-for-3 with a three-run home run as he took the lineup spot vacated Bruce, who was traded to the Indians.

“[Conforto] did a tremendous job leading off,” manager Terry Collins said. “And now he’s going to get in the middle of the lineup and the way he is swinging I think he is going to be great.”
