CC irked by bunting Bosox’s strategy

BOSTON — CC Sabathia didn’t like the Red Sox game plan in the first inning of Saturday night’s 4-3 Yankees win at Fenway Park.

So, when he fielded Andrew Benintendi’s bunt toward the third base line and fired a hard strike to first base for the final out, the veteran lefty waved his pitching hand at the Red Sox dugout in a dismissive way.

“To come out and that’s your strategy, that got me going a little bit,’’ Sabathia told The Post at his locker Sunday morning. “Literally, two of the hottest hitters in baseball bunting. If that was their strategy, I [handled] it.’’

Before Benintendi bunted, Sabathia watched leadoff hitter Eduardo Nunez foul off a 1-1 pitch trying to bunt his way on base.

Benintendi entered Saturday night’s action hitting .364 (20-for-55) with five homers and 14 RBIs in 14 games this month. Nunez was hitting .314 (22for-70) with two homers and eight RBIs in 15 games in August.

Since the Red Sox open a four-game series in The Bronx Aug. 31-Sept. 3, there is a good chance Sabathia will face them again. It will be interesting to see if they attempt to bunt on him again and try to take advantage of his balky right knee.

As for Sabathia’s knee problem that landed him on the disabled list from Aug. 9 to just before Saturday’s game, he said the discomfort he experienced in Saturday’s six-inning gig was OK.

“It’s all right. I feel it a little bit,’’ Sabathia said of the hinge the morning after allowing two runs and four hits and beating the Red Sox for the third time this year in three starts in which he has a 0.90 ERA. He is 10-5 overall with a 3.99 ERA. “If it’s like [Saturday] night, I can manage it.’’

Sabathia, 37, was treated with a cortisone shot and lubrication injections into the knee that will likely require a postseason cleanup procedure. Until then, his plan is to deal with whatever comes along, and that includes Red Sox hitters bunting on him.
