Richardson OK not facing off vs. ex-mate Marshall

- By ZACH BRAZILLER

Sheldon Richardson isn’t exactly losing sleep over the possibility of not facing former teammate Brandon Marshall Saturday night at MetLife Stadium. The Giants wide receiver suffered a shoulder injury in Monday’s preseason game against the Browns, and it seems unlikely he will suit up against the Jets.

“I don’t care,” the Jets defensive lineman said after practice Tuesday, when asked about possibly not having the chance to face Marshall.

The two clashed last year, getting into a heated altercation following a Week 3 loss to the Chiefs. After a December rout by the Patriots that Marshall called “embarrassing,” Richardson said Marshall should “be embarrassed,” and implied he had lost respect for him. In July, Marshall said he asked for his release from the Jets because they “didn’t stand a chance,” and Richardson shot back, calling Marshall “drama-queenish.”

In May, Richardson said he had 15 reasons why the Jets locker room is “a whole lot easier to get along with.” Marshall wears No. 15.

Richardson is looking forward to the team’s third preseason game, when the start- ers are expected to play at least a half, but he insisted it has nothing to do with Marshall.

“I’m excited for the game, Jets versus Giants,” the 26-year-old said. “We’ll leave it at that.”

Cornerback Maurice Claiborne (shoulder) and rookie tight end Jordan Leggett (foot) didn’t practice, but neither injury is believed serious. Both injuries were sustained in Saturday night’s loss to the Lions, according to Todd Bowles. Linebacker Darron Lee (illness) remained out, and so did outside linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin (back). Bowles said it is unlikely Mauldin, whose roster spot could be in jeopardy, will play Saturday.
