Weird BUT true

University of Southern California officials claim this monument fight is much ado about nothing.

Critics nitpicked the spelling of William “Shakespear” that appears with a quote at the base of a new statue of Hecuba, the legendary queen of Troy, unveiled on the Los Angeles campus.

But the school said the bard spelled his own last name several ways so they correctly answered the question: “To E, or not to E.”

When Colorado cops stopped a driver for going under the speed limit — 60 mph in a 75-mph zone — that was the least of his worries.

Turns out, the driver was 13 years old. A search of his Dodge Avenger, pulled over on Interstate 70 west of Fruita, revealed 25 pounds of methamphetamine, says the Mesa County Sheriff ’s Department.

Two passengers, 22 and 19, said they let the kid drive because “they weren’t feeling well,” cops said.

An Ohio man, frustrated that so many people renting trailer homes on his property have been drug addicts, exploded in a burning rage.

Robert Violette, 41, torched one of his vacant trailers, say Chillicothe firefighters who put out the blaze and issued him a warning.

A heroic Florida cop rescued a couple from their burning car — by opening fire on it.

Off-duty Manatee County Sheriff ’s deputy Willie Finklea — driving by on a motorcycle — saw Neil Cook, 64, and his wife, Claudia, 65, trapped when their electric-operated car windows and power locks wouldn’t work.

So he shot out a back window and pulled the couple to safety, authorities said.

The owner of a car being repossessed in Compton, Calif., acted, well, possessed.

The car owner jumped onto the tow truck dragging his car off, then smashed the truck’s window with a crowbar, witnesses said.

Cops said he could face vandalism charges.
