Donald & Melania visiting

-

President Trump and First Lady Melania will touch down in Corpus Christi, Texas, at noon Tuesday to begin surveying the flood damage wrought by Tropical Storm Harvey, the White House announced.

The city’s port was especially hard hit when Harvey made landfall late Friday about 30 miles away as a Category 4 hurricane.

The president and first lady will then tour the Emergency Operations Center in Austin.

Trump will steer clear of Houston because the situation is still so dangerous in the flooded city, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

On Saturday, the president will return to Texas, and visit Louisiana, too.

“There’s probably never been anything like this,” the president told reporters at the White House on Monday of the catastrophic storm still lashing parts of Texas.

“To the people of Texas and Louisiana, we are 100 percent with you. We’re praying for you, we’re working closely with your leaders and officials.”

Team Trump appears intent on avoiding the mistakes made by then-President George W. Bush amid Hurricane Katrina, which hit New Orleans in August 2005 and left more than 1,500 dead.

The botched response of Bush’s FEMA administrator, Michael Brown, to that hurricane dogged Bush for the remainder of his presidency.
