Odighizuwa banned four games for PEDs

Ow a Odig hizuwa’ s strange year took another wrong turn on Monday.

Big Blue’s third-year defensive end, who missed all of the Giants’ OTAs in addition to minicamp, was suspended four games Monday for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, the team announced shortly after practice.

The third-round pick out of UCLA is eligible to play in Thursday’s preseason finale against the Patriots; his suspension wouldn’t begin until 4 p.m. Saturday. He wouldn’t count toward the active 53-man roster, so the Giants don’t have to make a decision on his future with the team until he is eligible to come off suspension Oct. 2, following the previous day’s game against the Buccaneers.

Despite several requests, Odighizuwa has not met with reporters this summer. Buried on the depth chart, Giants coach Ben McAdoo previously said the defensive lineman was “fighting and battling to catch up.” In early April, O dig hizuwa posted a series of mysterious tweets that seemed to suggest he was planning to take a leave of absence from football. The next day, however, he tweeted he wasn’t leaving the team.

WRs Brandon Mar- shall (shoulder) and

Dwayne Harris (upperbody injury) returned to practice. The 33-year-old Marshall, who has been out since hurting his shoulder Aug. 21 against the Browns, took part in some team drills, but was limited, according to McAdoo.

“He looked good,” the coach said. “He caught a nice ball on a slant route. [He was] moving around, got a little bit of work today, so it was nice to have him back in the mix.”

Though McAdoo said most starters wouldn’t play against the Patriots, he didn’t rule out using Marshall.

WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) remained out and wasn’t seen on the practice f ield. McAdoo said he’s “improving,” but didn’t offer many more details other than to say he’s hopeful Beckham will be ready for the regularseason opener against the Cowboys on Sept. 10.

“He’s getting treatment, he responds well to treat- ment and we’ll repeat that process again for tomorrow,” McAdoo said.

CB Eli Apple (ankle) and DTs Jay Bromley (knee) and Damon “Snacks” Har

rison (rest) didn’t practice. Bromley was wearing a brace on his left leg when he met the media, but said an MRI revealed the injury isn’t serious.
