Porzingis, Hornacek reportedly had problems last season

Now there’s a new reason given why Kristaps Porzingis didn’t attend his exit meeting with Phil Jackson, Steve Mills and Jeff Hornacek in April.

According to former Post columnist Peter Vecsey, an incident between Porzingis, his buddy Willy Hernangomez and the head coach triggered ill feelings.

According to the report, Hornacek rode Porzingis hard last season, culminat- ing when Hornacek told Hernangomez to tell Porzingis to “stop playing like a p---y.” Porzingis was offended, and it led to missing the exit interview and hurting his relationship with the first-year coach.

It has been widely re- ported Porzingis missed the meeting because of the chaos around the franchise, changing offenses and Jackson’s treatment of Carmelo Anthony, who is still on the trading block.

Porzingis and Hornacek have been back on speaking terms since July, but their relationship bears watching. In fact, at May’s predraft camp in Chicago, Hornacek admitted Porzingis had not returned his text messages or responded to him at all and declared the Latvian shouldn’t “dwell in the past.”

But an NBA source familiar with the situation stated it’s doubtful that Hornacek was Porzingis’ reason for missing the meeting.

The report stated Porzingis also raised eyebrows in management circles by parking in the spots reserved for executives at the team’s training campus in Tarrytown.

At July’s summer league, Hornacek said they have been in communication, and he was planning to head to Europe at some point to see the European championships in which Porzingis and Hernangomez are competing, starting Friday. Hornacek said he believed Porzingis was ready to become the No. 1 option in the offense. The since-departed Jackson had said he wasn’t ready.

When Steve Mills was promoted to the presi- dency this summer, he said he had an active “texting relationship” with Porzingis.

In Africa for a promotion this month, Porzingis said he’s happy as a Knick and wanted to spend his career in New York. The Knicks declined to offer Porzingis in a Kyrie Irving trade despite the Cavaliers’ insistence, according to sources.

Latvia will begin the European Championships on Friday with Porzingis, who says his mild knee bruise is “90 to 95 percent” healed after missing some of the country’s exhibition games. He also tweeted Friday he expects to be an All-Star next season.
