OUT IN THE OPEN

STICKING AROUND

For the second time, Jennifer Brady has reached the third round of a Grand Slam event. For the first time, the 22-yearold is prepared. When the Pennsylvania native, and former UCLA star, unexpectedly reached the fourth round of this year’s Australian Open — her first major appearance — Brady, who had advanced to the main draw as a qualifier, had to extend her hotel reservation twice. After winning her second-round match at the U.S. Open in just 55 minutes against 23rd-seeded Barbora Strycova 6-1, 6-1, at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Brady smiled when asked if she was confident enough to make a longer reservation this time.

“Well, the hotel is booked until [Sept.] 6,” Brady said.

Should Brady get knocked out before then, she wants to take advantage of her time in New York.

“I haven’t done anything touristy yet,” Brady said. “Hopefully, I can. ... I would like to go see a play. I heard that ‘Wicked’ and ‘The Book of Mormon’ is good.” —HowieKussoy
