Hinton returns to work after brain injury

-

FORMER Bill de Blasio press secretary Karen Hinton is back at work after suffering a severe brain injury when she fell on a treadmill at the gym in April. Hinton, who was in a coma for 10 days and underwent three brain surgeries, is back for the first time today at Fenton Communications, a social-change p.r. agency, where she worked before the accident. She now has short hair because medics had to shave her blond locks to perform the brain surgeries. Hinton, who doesn’t know how she fell and has no memory of the accident nor the 60 days following it, said, “I am not happy about my supershort hair, but love being back at work. Both of my former employers, Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio, called to check on my condition several times, which I greatly appreciated. I also realized how fortunate I am to have such a thoughtful husband, Howard Glaser, other family members, friends and clients. My advice to anyone interested in my accident is: Avoid treadmills. There are much safer ways to stay in shape.” Hinton served as acting assistant secretary for public affairs under Gov. Cuomo, when he was former President Bill Clinton’s federal housing secretary. As chief strategy officer and managing director of the New York office at Fenton Communications, she will continue working with the same clients, including the US Conference of Mayors and the Nonhuman Rights Project, which tries to secure legal rights for animals through the US court system.
