Bromley making progress

- By PAUL SCHWARTZ

When Jay Bromley was forced out of the preseason game against the Jets with a sprained knee, it appeared his availability for the regular-season opener might be tenuous, at best. That would have been a tough blow for Bromley, who is entering his fourth year with the Giants and f inally has been promoted to a starting role at defensive tackle.

Just 11 days after suffering the injury, Bromley was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. Coach Ben McAdoo would not say if Bromley will start against the Cowboys, revealing only this: “If Jay is cleared to play medically, we will play him.’’

Given that Bromley was cleared to practice without limitations, there is a good chance he will start, unless he has a setback. If not, rookie Dalvin Tomlinson is next in line. Odel l Beck ha m Jr. has pledged $100,000 to the Hurricane Harvey rel i ef efforts, donating the money to Americares and Samaritan’s Purse. In an Instagram video, Beckham urged others to contribute. Beckham (ankle) and LB Keenan Robinson (concussion) did not practice. The other f ive players on the injury report all were full participants. CB El i Apple (ankle), Michael Hunter (concussion), WR Tavarres King (ankle) and FB Shane Smith (quad) also did not miss anything.

Beckham was injured in the Aug. 21 preseason game against the Browns when defensive back Brie an

Boddy- Calhoun hit him low and directly on the left ankle. It was a legal hit, but several Giants players said it was a cheap shot. Beckham did not go that far.

“I guess it’s part of the game,’’ he said. “In my opinion, they made rules about safeties hitting high and it being a problem and ... I’d rather him hit me up there every single time than go low.’’
